It always amazes me who is looking at the pictures on my Blog.  21 people from Russia viewed my blog this week and 9 from Germany.  Isn't the internet wonderful!  Who would think a 60 year old, disabled woman would possible  be able to show her painting around the world.  The following picture  is one from my collage for Legacy Trust and possible Art Prize.  It is an 8" x 10" watercolor pencil painting done on canvas. Enjoy please! It is a painting of a loon and it's baby.

Spring Love

This is the collage I did for Legacy Prize competition.  It is a competition for individuals with disabilities.  The work has five 8x10 Paintings and six 3x5 watercolor pencil paintings on canvas. I call it Spring Love.  If I win this competition the work will be entered into the Art Prize competition in Grand Rapids Michigan.  I believe it is a picture worth Art Prize I also feel that because of all the politics I will probable not get in.  I will be featuring some of the pictures individually in the next few weeks.

Discouragement

I haven't written in a month.  That is how long it has been since I got bumped out of the legacy prize by a business man who wants to increase his autistic son's self esteem by asking all his business friends to vote for his son,  Never mind that it takes him all of 3 minutes to paint some lines on a page.  Never mind that his teacher frequently holds his hand with his paint brush in it.  Never mind that it takes me weeks to complete a piece of work.  Never mind that I have no more money for supplies.  Never mind that I can not compete like a regular person.  Never mind that I was one of two people who spent all of the second day and the Art Museum when no one else did. I am so angry.  I can find no peace here any more.  I am no longer sure I want to paint.  I do not sell any pictures.  I do not know how to deal with any of this.  No selling no material to paint no painting.  It will be a while till I find my way back.  Sorry all.

ACTion Art Results

Well I am glad to announce that "My OZ" won the peoples choice award for the ACTion Art Contest.  I will be entering the  paintings of the Kids into the Legacy Prize.  Hopefully that work will get into Art Prize.  I hate chasing competition but I really would like to sell some of these paintings.    We will see how it goes.  I wish I was done with this entry process but I keep on hoping.

Water Color Water Lilly

This water color water Lilly is a 16" x 20".  It looks pretty translucent to me.  I used no water color pencils on this work.  I did the technical work with a brush rather than the pencil.  Don't know if I like this or not.  Oh well you be the judge.  It feels strange not being in  Art Prize this year.  I like not having the stress but still am struggling a little with my inability to participate because of the stress.  Well I guess it is the way it is.

Festival of the Arts 2012

This picture is called the Buds.  It is the second of two pictures that have gained entrance into the Festival of the Arts 2012.  I had two rejects for the Competition.  The other one than won and entry was Eye of the Iris.
These two paintings are the rejects.  Who knows how the entries are chosen.  Since as an artist I pay to enter I think it only fair that I get some feedback on this.  Things such as crappy lighting or looks like you messed up the lighting.  I would actually appreciate this as I still have know idea of what makes a good painting.  My mentor seems to always like my work as does her husband.  Others who have seen my work also seem to like it.  But I just don't know.  I like my work but then again it doesn't seem to sell and I am not in any galleries.  I have chosen not to get into Art Prize so that is an attempt to just paint for painting sake.  I think I am still messed up in the brain when it comes to the art world.  I think I am a slow learner.  Again I work with Watercolors on Canvas as well as the Watercolor Pencil.  I have been doing this for the last 4 1/2  years.

Lane Cooper

This is a watercolor painting of one of my good friends.  He has been a very positive influence on me.  He also has been the victim of a closed head injury and suffers from headaches.  He is an artist  and works with recycled material.  He creates sculptures.  He also had work in the Mary FreeBed show as well as was in Art Prize with me in 2010.  He makes me laugh and is good for my soul.

Proud Native American

This little guy was so proud of himself at the Pow-wow. His bright colors were amazing. This is a 16" by 20" watercolor painting on canvas. The picture was taken about 2 years ago. I am experimenting with the back grounds. Hope you like it.

After much thought I have decided not to enter the Legacy Prize contest this year. I will not enter Art Prize as a result of this. It is just too much for me and I am taking a year off.

I will be in the Mary Free bed show this year and look forward to it.

Mary Free Bed Contest.

This is one of three pictures I will be entering into the Mary Free Bed art show. There is another one of Zack looking at some flowers with binoculars and then the one of the wizard of oz that was done for Art Prize 2009.
I am struggling right now with my art and I don't know why. I am definitely hitting a mental block of some kind. I have decided to sit out of the Legacy Prize contest this year as well as Art Prize. I just can't get up the energy to get out there. We will see how this goes as time passes.

Sgt. Michael Keith Ingram Jr.

This is Sgt. Michael Keith Ingram Jr. He was killed in Afghanistan in 2010. I had painted a picture if Mike for ART Prize but had given it to his father as he was the only person I was in touch with at the time of the contest. During the last weeks of the competition I was befriended on Face Book by his mother who was divorced from his father. She was also having a very rough time in her life with the loss of her son. Shortly after that she lost both her sister and nephew who were shot on there porch at home. I can not imagine the grief this woman has touched.
I decided to paint this picture of her son and give it to her with my sympathies. Again, this is a 16" by 20" watercolor pencil painting on canvas.

Legacy Trust Donates postage.

This young lady died about a year ago from cancer. A friend of hers had this picture painted for her cousin who was very close to her. It is a watercolor pencil painting on canvas.

Life goes on. The pictures for Art Prize are all packed up and ready to be mailed. I will take them down to the Legacy Trust building who have committed to paying the postage for me. Thank God. I did not know how I was going to come up with the money.

Spc. Joseph Dennis Johnson, Art Prize

This is Spc. Joseph Dennis Johnson. This is the picture I did for his mother. It was to small for Art Prize so I just gave it to her earlier this year.

Art Prize is again a big disappointment for me. My venue is dead with only few people from art prize coming through. The people who do come through are very positive about the work but probable won't vote in Art Prize. I don't even feel I will make the top 25 in the Hill side district. It is not about winning it is about doing a lot of work and it still does not get seen. I feel I let down all the family's that lost their loved ones. I can only go with the current yet I feel like I only swim against the current.

Spc. Joseph Dennis Johnson, Art Prize

This is Spc. Joseph Dennis Johnson. Joe was as fun loving mischievous type of a guy. He was never one to sit by the sidelines and watch. His mother gave me the picture on the right, stating it best portrayed Joe's spirit. I painted it for her and then painted a picture of just Joe for the Art Prize Competition. Joe's portrait can be see at the Spectrum Health Butterworth Campus Atrium. Joe is from Flint, Michigan. He was killed on 6/16/2010 at the age if 24. He had been in the military for four years prior to his death.

Cpl. Anthony Aitilio Dilisio, Art Prize, 2011

This is Cpl. Anthony Aitilio Dilisio. The day he died he was told that he could take the day off but he decided to go anyway. His family didn't want him to go into the service but he wanted to go. He wanted to fight. He wanted to be a hero. He was stubborn and a born leader. He was 25 yards outside the camp when a van of enemy fighters fired upon them. They all died but so did Anthony. Anthony was from Macomb, Michigan. He died on 5/30/2010 at the age of 20. His original portrait, a watercolor pencil painting on canvas can be seen during Art Prize, 2011 at the Spectrum Health Butterworth Hospital Atrium. Art Prize goes from Sept. 21 through Oct. 9.

Cpl Jacob Henry Turbett, Art Prize

This is Cpl Jacob Henry Turbett. Jacob came from a family of military. He decided early in life to make the military his career. He was thinking about leaving the Marines when his enlistment came up so he could go back to school and then get into flying in the service. He had been stationed in Bangladesh, Okinawa, Iraq and finally Afghanistan. He was from Canton, Michigan. He died of a single gun shot wound on 2/13/2010 at the age of 21. His picture will be displayed at the Spectrum Health Butterworth Atrium from Sept. 21, 2011 to Oct. 8, 2011 for Art Prize.

Black Eyed Susan's

Back Eyed Susan's are one of my favorite flowers, who know why? I liked this picture because it had the other red Lilly in it. I have had a lot of time to paint and am beginning to feel relaxed again. I am practicing saying a small speech for the art prize telephone identification message. Its harder than I thought but my sister and my friend are helping me. I have it written now just to call it in and get it done. For now.

Flower, Art Prize,Pfc Shane Michael Reifert

This is a 12X16" painting done with watercolor paints in a tub. I am finding that some things are done better with this technique and others are done better with with the water color pencil. I guess the combo is OK. There is now some lag time before art prize and I find myself painting a lot of flowers, a dog, a baby and then more flowers. I have stopped worrying about Art Prize and am just trying to beat the heat in Michigan. I continue to enjoy reading the blog: My fallen soldier.blogspot.com Both his mother and sister are very good writers and although I don't read well it is worth the struggle. I appreciate their honesty and thoughts. Thank you.

Back yard flower.

This is a BEAUTIFUL yellow flower that is in my back yard. It was fun and relaxing to paint.

I guess I'm going to be interviewed for art prize by some radio station next Thursday. I just can't wait. It may be fun or nerve racking with this speech problem.

We are going into the fourth of July week end and the grand kids are already over to spend the night. I get such a kick out of them. I think they keep me young as well as old.

More Ditch flowers.

Another ditch flower. It is an Iris. Special thank you to Robin and Micheal for being the most consistent readers and com-mentors. I never really know if any one is listening. I continue to prepare for Art Prize but remain reserved about the facility. I don't think It should be stressful but it is. Oh well the grand kids will be over again on Sunday so more fun ahead.
